Numbers were part of a language that started to make fascinating sense out of traditionally esoteric concepts that are part of everyday life, like mortgages, financial instruments, asset pricing, interest rates, capital budgeting and so on. By understanding these concepts I could make better financial decisions and help others to do the same. I’ve subsequently spent the last 10 years learning how to better read and understand financial numbers. It’s a story I find business owners really do care about, even if they have an initial negative preconception about their ability to understand it. The problem has often been the systems and people attempting to convey financial information were unintuitive, aloof, out of touch or simply pitching their analysis at a level inappropriate for the business owner. We make it our business to be in touch and get the story across. After that, what a business owner does with that information is up to them, but it’s usually build a better business.
Thanks for reading the story.
